Milstein Research Stacks

Expanded Storage for Our Collections

To provide improved services for researchers and safeguard our world-renowned collections, the Library recently concluded a major project that dramatically increased our underground collections storage beneath Bryant Park.

Completed in spring 2016, the project built out a second, lower layer of our state-of-the-art storage facility behind the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, under Bryant Park, newly named the Milstein Research Stacks. The facility’s upper level has been used for book storage since 1991.

With the additional lower level, the Library will be able to store as many as 4.3 million items on site. This project was made possible thanks to a generous gift from Library Trustee Abby S. Milstein and her husband Howard P. Milstein.
